Jake plays it safe

Their hands were much more conservative this time. Down several chips now, he played carefully. Several hands he folded right away, a few he folded when things got too dicey, a few he lost, and a few he won. The girls, especially Sarah, made several mistakes and it wasn't long before he found his pile of chips growing again.

Sarah and Anne suddenly stopped. Turning to each other, they smiled and whispered to each other. They smiled alluringly at Jake, then leaned their mouths in close and kissed each other. A short time later, Anne and Sarah were each down to 48 chips and Jake had 54. After Jake had 6 chips in the center, he decided his hand wasn't good enough and folded. The girls kept raising. And raising.

They went all in. The pot held 102 chips. They looked at each other, down at their cards, back at each other.

The bet was to Sarah, but she couldn't raise, she was out of chips. "I raise," she said slowly.

"Umm... how?" Anne asked suspiciously.

Sarah leaned over and whispered something in Anne's ear. Anne looked down at her cards in silence. Then, "And if I don't want to risk that?"

"Then we bet what we have in the middle right now. I guess I'm not really raising, just offering a side bet. You in?"

"Sure..." Anne said slowly. Then, "All right, I'm in."

Sarah laid her cards down. All of them were clubs.
