JE - New cellmate

“Terrible,” Juri says, watching some women fight in the yard. You sit with her on the bleachers. It’s a chilly day, and the bikini girl in the watchtower has a jacket on. The jacket is just short enough that you get a nice view whenever she moves. Juri doesn’t care about that, though. She’s watching the fight.

It’s Jinx and Ashe. Ashe is grumpy all the time, so she can’t help but pick fights, and Jinx is too dumb to ever do anything except just fight back. You are not an expert on fighting, but Ashe doesn’t seem very good at it. Jinx is pretty good, but she’s so little and bony that it doesn’t matter.

Other inmates cheer and laugh as the two women roll across the grass, pulling at each other’s hair.

Cait is coming out and moving across the yard to intervene, but she’s not in much of a hurry. Ashe puts Jinx in a headlock.

“Dumb bitch,” she says angrily.

Jinx bites her and she shrieks and lets go. They’re back at it.

“Terrible,” Juri repeats, sounding bored.

“Fighting is bad entertainment,” you say.

“You call this fighting?” Juri asks.

You shrug.

At lunch, you trade Juri your dessert. You didn’t want it anyway. You’re thinking about improving your endurance while you’re in prison, starting a running regimen. You don’t need the extra carbs. You were always a good player with good speed, but you did have a small stamina problem. Maybe you can correct that here.

You duck as Kat throws a shiv at someone behind you. Another fight breaks out, and you take a drink of milk.

“Work detail should be harder,” Juri muses. “Wear them out so they don’t fight for the rest of the day.”

Maybe she’s right, but then the prisoners would just be mad at the prison for being mean **** drivers. It’s nice.

As other women scream and throw each other around behind you, you and Juri are in a good place. She’s enough of a conversationalist that she doesn’t seem standoffish, but she’s also not talking your ear off. You don’t have much to say, and that doesn’t bother her. It’s almost peaceful.

A big woman slams into the table between you, rattling your trays and spilling your milk. You and Juri both stand up and turn.

“What?” Kat asks defiantly, her hands on her hips. You can’t believe you used to find her attractive. It’s the red hair. Not the scars. She has a nice body, though.

“Would you knock this shit off?” Juri asks irritably.

Kat responds by throwing another shiv straight at her. Juri kicks it out of the air effortlessly. You’re… kind of impressed. As a footballer, kicking is kind of your thing. Juri is very good at it, clearly.

“You want to go?” Kat pulls another shiv. Where is she keeping these?

“Don’t try it,” you say, stepping up beside Juri.

Seeing both of you, Kat backs down. But your lunch is ruined. Prison life.
