Chapter 14

How does the next part of Mackenzie's trek go?
It starts raining
The cardboard box didn't do much, but Mackenzie was glad for it anyway. It felt like she had at least something to protect her bare body from the dozens and dozens of onlookers. Though it did nothing to deter their jeers.
"Hey there sweet cheeks!"
"What is wrong with people today?"
"Nice box ya got there!"
"You should be ashamed!"
"Hell yeah! Streaker!"
Only another half mile to the edge of town! she chanted over and over in her mind, **** to leave the gawkers and catcallers behind. As Mackenzie ran by a high end Italian restaurant, the first rumbles of thunder echoed across the sky. Oh no... Please don't tell me... A big drop of rain landed square on her face, answering her question. Mackenzie was about to get wet. She turned the corner and continued her cardboard-clad run.
Marianne and her boyfriend emerged from the same restaurant mere seconds after Mackenzie had run out of sight.
"What's everyone so worked up about?" Marianne wondered, noticing how everyone nearby seemed either giddy or angry and kept glancing in the same direction.
"Who cares?" her boyfriend, Peter said. "C'mon we should head back fast. Sounds like it's gonna storm."
And with that, the two quickly walked over to Peter's parked car. They made it inside just as the rain began to fall and were soon on their way home, completely oblivious to Mackenzie's nearby plight.
The rain began pelting Mackenzie as she ran. She had just managed to reach the outskirts of town when the rain turned into a true downpour. In less than a minute, Mackenzie was completely drenched from head to toe. Her cardboard box quickly turned soggy in her grip. And, within another two minutes, the waterlogged material began tearing apart under its own weight.
"No, no, no, no, NO!" Mackenzie shouted, boiling over with frustration for a moment. She chucked the last scrap of cardboard into the dark and continued jogging along the road, once again naked. It was dark now, with the town's lights behind her. So, she no longer kept her hands covering her privates. Instead she let her arms pump as she ran. The fatigue was already getting to her, and by Mackenzie's best guess, she had at least 5 miles to go. She shivered as strong gusts of wind chilled her to the bone and the torrential rains continued to hit her.
Any time a car approached, Mackenzie quickly ducked into the nearby brush to ensure she'd be out of sight. But, after another grueling 10 minutes of enduring the storm, Mackenzie began to question her plan. Even if it was only 4 miles away, she wasn't sure if she could make it home like this! Perhaps hoping for a ride from a stranger would be her best bet at getting home in one piece. A moment later, another car began approaching, its headlights cutting through the dark night. Mackenzie had a choice to make.
Does Mackenzie try to flag down a ride? Or continue her miserable trek?
