Chapter 28 by doppledon doppledon

Actually shop now?

It is what you came here for.

"Kinda feels weird to bring it up now, but I was hoping you could help me out with rigging something for Copper here" you say with a sheepish grin on your face.

"Of course" Jane claps her hands together. "I've always wanted to make something for a raptor. In fact I have some things already complete in the back. I did them in my spare time . They might not fit exactly, but I can modify them to fit pretty easily. Let me go grab them" she says turning away to exit the room. She suddenly turns back to you "Don't go anywhere" and looks at you like you might disappear. You realize she's scared to be alone right now.

"I won't move from this spot" you assure her and point at where you are standing.

Her smile brightens and she ducks through a door into what you assume is her living quarters. Several minutes pass so you decide to look at her work on the walls. You turn slowly around the room looking at her work. All of it is herbivore gear, with the most common gear being for an ankylosaurus, which you've noticed seemed to be really the only type of Dino anyone has in this town. There were however several sets for triceratops. The gear was all leather. Some hardened, some soft, depending on what it was meant for. You could see she was rather skilled and some of the better looking ones had intricate detail work imprinted on the leather. Soon you heard something sliding on the ground and Jane came out of the door she left in pulling a wooden box by a rope. The box was a lot bigger than she was so you rushed forward to help her drag it into the room.

Once she was satisfied with the box's placement she hopped over its side into the box. You watched her disappear into the box while bits of leather started being thrown up to drape over the edge of the box. Finally done she leapt out of the box and dusted off her clothes.

"It's been a while since I've worked on these, but they seem to be in good condition still" she explained.

"Copper if you would be so kind" she motioned him over. Copper plodded over to Jane. She grabbed one set of gear and threw it over Copper's back and began rigging the tack together. After a minute she nodded her head.

"Fits him like a glove" she smiled widely clearly proud of her work. You looked Copper over.

The gear was clearly meant for carrying packs. It started at his shoulders and finished at his tail. It essentially looked like a strapped on jacket with dull hooks lining his side, and various tie downs to secure the packs once you set them on the hooks.

"Very practical" you stated looking it over. "How much" you asked. She looks shocked at the question.

"You...you think I'm going to charge you for this stuff" she says pointing at Copper and then at the box. You sigh. You were afraid of that.

"Yes, you should charge me for it" nothing that has happened today was so I could get free stuff from you" you reason "you need money to survive in this world and I don't want to take advantage of your kindness. You don't owe me a thing" you finish. Jane stares at you for a moment.

"You didn't pay me for the potions we used yesterday" Annabel chuckles poking you in your side.

"Ha, well I think you received fair compensation in return" you counter with your own smile.

"Mmmmmm...yes indeed I did" she says leaning her head against her palm with a wistful smile on her face. Jane blushes a little as she looks back and forth between the two of you.

"I need a moment to think about something" she says backing away and through the door she entered previously.

You inspect the work on the gear Copper is wearing. It is very beautiful. The stitching is very well done. You try, but you can't find a single stitch that looks weird. Along the stitching are imprints in the leather. They look like curved teeth pointing inward that followed a pattern along the entire gear. Clearly she had put some work into this. There was no way you weren't paying for this. You just did what anyone would have done right?

"It's ok to accept gifts" Yvette says putting her hand on your shoulder.

"You did an amazing thing for her, not everyone would have done that. Many would have walked away" she says. You know she is right. Especially in this turbulent world. You place your hand on hers and give it a squeeze accepting how well she knows you already.

"I know, and I'll work on accepting gifts, but this doesn't feel like a gift. It feels like payment for a debt she thinks she owes me, and I don't want her thinking she owes me anything" you reply. Yvette nods her head.

"That may be what you want, but you can't dismiss how she actually feels about it" she responds. Her statement hits you like a ton of bricks. You were being dismissive to Jane. That wasn't your intention, but that's what was happening.

The door swings open again and Jane strides out to stand in front of you with her arms across her chest. She looks like she has decided something and isn't going to take no for an answer. She doesn't say anything at first, as if she is building the courage to say it, so you give her a once over for the first time. She is quite a bit shorter than you are, and also much skinnier. She stands at about 5'5" and couldn't possibly weigh more than 125 pounds soaking wet. She was definitely young, and if you had to guess you'd say early twenties or younger even. Her light brown hair was braided behind her and came to about the middle of her back. She had a pretty face with brown eyes and freckles dotting her cheeks. Her breast were barely noticeable being maybe size A or at most barely size B. Not that you minded of course. Sexy was sexy, and you guessed if she wanted to she could be pretty sexy. She did have fairly wide hips and she seemed to have a fairly small but athletic ass from what you saw of her walking away previously. She wore a button up shirt that had a flannel pattern to it, and pretty tight pants that seemed to be that denim substitute you had seen before. On her feet were what looked like cowboy boots from your world. She reminded you a lot of some of the women who owned horses back in your world.

You could see her face was starting to grow a bit red when she noticed you look her up and down, but it didn't look like she was angry you did. In fact it seemed like she was waiting for you to finish before she said anything. She lowered her arms to cross them at her stomach level and seemed to push her chest forward a bit as she looked away. You cleared your throat a little still a bit embarrassed she'd caught you staring, and you could feel the blood rushing to your face.

"So....uh...you've decided something I take it" trying to act like you weren't checking her out. She looked back to you and gave you a good once over as well biting her bottom lip. A sudden look of confidence washed over her face.

"You're taking me with you" she said with a slight smile.

Pardon?
