Chapter 4 by Lyingbastard Lyingbastard

How's your ship, The Relentless?

It could use some repairs

The Outlander's ship, The Relentless, took a bit of a beating taking on the Sarkhai pirates. It had been a pretty involved mission. First, he had to clear the minefields funneling traffic in and out of the sector into prime ambush spots, and destroy the pirates' minelayers as well as dozens of droid escort fighters. That hadn't been too difficult, but it had been time consuming and repetitive. That had lulled him into not paying attention, and one cluster of mines had detonated too close. After that, he'd had intermittent trouble with minor systems - holorecording playbacks would stutter for a few seconds, cabin lights would blink, and for some reason everytime he told his audio system to play his favorite Quarren glimmik band, Syd Sqwyd & the Cthulhutones, it played Alderaan folk music instead.

Bizarre.

That had been followed by an extended fight with their main **** ****. Entire squadrons of starfighter drones, as well as Corellian corvettes and a pair of frigates. His shield generators had taken a beating and his ship's durasteel plating had gotten a bit dinged here and there. He'd been able to jury rig some repairs to his generators, enough to continue his objective.

The raid on the pirate's main command ship had been rough. He'd expended all of his proton torpedos and concussion missiles and his ship had been pretty thoroughly battered by the time he'd disabled their defenses and was able to dock. The boarding action that had followed had been pretty gritty work. He'd had pretty good backup, though. Qyzen Fess, a reknown Trandoshan hunter, whose loyalty the Outlander had earned by scoring many Jagannath points hunting dangerous beasts on Hoth, had joined him. Fess considered Senator Grell of Sarkhai to be a friend - they had apparently traveled with a Jedi known as 'The Barsenthor' together for some time and been crucial in forming The Rift Alliance. Despite being past his prime and missing an eye, Fess was still a lethal combatant at close quarters and had felled many pirates. Together they had captured the vessel and the remaining pirates, turning both over to the Sarkhai government - minus his fees. The shipyards on Sarkhai had gotten The Relentless spaceworthy again, though Fess had stayed behind to see what kind of prey dwelt in the dense forests of Sarkhai.

"Well, I was able to get here under my own power, but, uh, yeah, it could definitely use a lot of work. The chief mechanic said he couldn't spare a work crew for another three days, though, and I figured it could keep."

"Chief mechanic? That idiot's spent more time pushing pencils than turning a hydrospanner. Lemme grab my tools and I'll see what I can do." The prospect of having a ship to work on had seemed to instantly clear Tora's foul mood, making her... slightly less angry, at any rate.

The Outlander had expected a toolbox, maybe an astromech to assist, probably a tool belt as well. He hadn't expected to see Tora pushing a repulsor cart loaded with welding torches, spanners, drivers, all kinds of diagnostic devices, and what appeared to be a sledgehammer with a head as big around as Tora's thigh.

"You ever think of investing in a repair droid? Half those tools built in, and you can tell it to do stuff while you work on other things," he said.

"Nah, I don't need some tin-can that'll back talk me when I don't follow standard repair protocols," she said. When they got to his ship, she looked up and whistled. "Whoo, I like me a challenge."

Is she up to the task?
