Chapter 7
by Omni-kid
Is it?
It could be worse
As you stepped inside you slowly took a look around the old building. You saw that the few stone stalls, previously housing different kinds of animals, have been repurposed into small rooms outfitted with uncomfortable looking beds and small drawers for storage purposes. The walls were made up of wooden planks (although a lot of them were either missing or broken). The Roof, at least, was in a better condition as only a few planks were absent and it seemed to have recently been repaired. The clay floor was, except for a few corners on the far end of the room, clean and even. In the center of the room, there was a large, rectangular table with about half a dozen chairs in varying condition, around it.
Just now you noticed the fairly... large man sitting on one of the chairs, his back facing towards you. He seemed to be busy filling out some sort of form, given the fact that different documents and folders plastered a large portion of the wooden table. He sighed and stood up apparently having to get another document in order to answer another one of the arrays of questions that were printed on the extremely long piece of paper, part of which hang down the edge of the table as it didn't fully fit on it. The man then turned around, somehow only now noticing your presence.
"Oh, hello there good sir! I almost didn't see you back there in the dark! So, What brings you to this fine place? Are you perhaps looking to join us in our quest to make this city safe again?" He inquires hopefully, and not at all incorrect.
"Yes, actually, I read one of your flyers on the market and I think that this might just be what I was looking for." As you answer you see the middle-aged man's face brighten up and he bursts out. "That is perfect timing! We need more members to finally start making a change! So, if you don't mind, what is it you can do?" Suddenly you feel a bit cornered but decide to just get it over with. "Err, shadow magic. You know, the kind you get from Lacrima?" He reacts to this much better than you expected, than you had hoped, even. His face looked even more gleeful now if that was even possible. "Lacrima? But that must mean you're incredibly strong, doesn't it? Oh, this is much more than I had even dared to hope!" He exclaims seemingly overwhelmed by the revelation. "Wait, so you don't have a problem with.... my kind?" You ask confused at his completely unexpected reaction to the nature of your magic. "Your kind? Just what are you talking about, boy? There might be a few bad apples under the Lacrima mages, but isn't that true for every other category as well? If I recall correctly there even was this one Dragonslayer that joined up with a Dark Guild, no?" Unable to disagree you nod your head a wide smile growing on your face. "Now, let's get you registered..."- "Morgan, Morgan Dragunov, sir!" You inform him. "Yes Morgan. my name is Gravis Sampson, nice to meet you!" After signing the guild contract he then get's out the guild symbol and stamps it on your left hand. As you look at it, you realize it's the depiction of a five edged star shimmering golden on your hand.
"You know, the color of the stamp is specific to the personality of its wearer. I think the golden color of yours fits greatly judging from what I've seen so far. But no matter! We have work to do!" And so the two of you go on to organize folders fill out forms and clean or repair where needed.
After an evening of hard work, you finally step out of the barn and, seeing that it is almost Dawn, decide to head home and get yourself some well-earned sleep...
