It's just Mom.

Your mom is watering plants on the porch, and waves at you as you pull up. You grab your duffel bag and walk up to say hello.

"Hi, John. Ronnie (your new step-father) and I are going to Atlantic City for the weekend, so it'll just be you and Kelly (the step-sister you've never met) here this weekend. Be nice to her, invite her out if you go downtown or something. She's a nice girl, and she doesn't know anyone. I know you haven't met her, but just try to be friendly to her. She's out with your cousin Katie right now, she'll be back later."

"Oh, and I left some money on top of the fridge, if you guys need pizza or something."

You thank your mother and head inside to unpack. Well, hopefully Kelly isn't awful. And, as usual, your mom left way more money than you'll need, a full thousand dollars. That'd have to be some kind of pizza. So it should be a decent weekend. Plus, you'll get a chance to see Katie when they get back.

You toss your bag on your old bed, and think about what to do next.
