You awaken to the sound of your door opening. “John? Are you awake?”

Well, you are now. “Sure, pumpkin. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” Izzi comes into your room. She is wearing her normal bedclothes, a long T-shirt and nothing else. You try not to notice how she looks just like Lisa. She sits on the edge of your bed. “I didn’t mean to upset you at dinner, but I could see how much I did.”

You smile at Izzi. So brave and mature. It would have taken a fair amount of courage to even bring the incident up again, but Isabelle had to make things right, no matter the cost to herself. “Think nothing of it, Izzi. Really.”

The girl’s relief is palpable. She had steeled herself for a tough conversation, and you’re letting her off the hook. She shifts, pushing her long legs out in front of her. You can tell how relieved she is because she begins to babble a little. “You’re the best, John. You know, Sara wasn’t lying when she said you kept this family together. And sane! We really owe a lot to you.”

You cut her off. “You’re selling yourself short. Your sisters and I all know how much you did – do! – to help us.”

“I guess that makes us the Mom and Dad of our family,” Izzi laughs. You join in, and it feels good.

Izzi motions for you to come in for a hug. You oblige happily. You feel a little self-conscious, being only in your boxers. Luckily, living with three daughters easily allowed you to kick the habit of sleeping nude. She turns her head and, looking into your eyes, gives you a long, slow kiss.

You don’t really react. Partly out of shock of what just happened, partly out of the sensation that Lisa is kissing you. Isabelle bears a striking resemblance to her mother, and this is the sort of move that she would have pulled. You shake yourself out of it.

“Izzi…” you say, and stop, because you don’t really know what to say.

“As mother and father of this family, we have certain obligations, don’t we? Really, John, you have been alone since mom died. My appreciation for you has… turned into more. So shut your mouth and let this happen.”

You have always tried to give your daughters what they want. Izzi kisses you again, and this time you return the gesture. You lose yourself in the action. Half of you is kissing Lisa again, half of you is kissing Izzi. You’re not sure which half is the worst.

With a motion, Izzi lifts her T-shirt from her body. You discover she is wearing nothing underneath. Her C-cup breasts are perky and firm, just inviting you. Your head moves of its own accord. Izzi cuddles against you. Again you experience a weird déjà vu, Lisa and yet not Lisa. Isabelle, her own woman. “That was so nice John.” She snuggles against you, and you cannot disagree with her.
