Chapter 1 by Celina_ Celina_

"My name is Lieutenant Colonel Maki, of His Imperial Majesty's special security branch within the Imperial Army, under the ministry of National Public Safety. In cases as uncommon as these, it?s not without precedence for the local Prefectural Police to hand matters over to the National Police Agency, and for them to hand it over to us."

He hadn't even closed the door in the interrogation room as he delivered his introduction in all seriousness and with all due understanding for the gravity of the situation. Finally someone seemed to take me serious, as I sat there with a green army shirt draped over my shoulders.

"I understand you must be weary of exchanging one suit for another, only to be asked the exact same inquires but I'll have to ask for your patience in this matter."

The middle-aged Officer clad in his immaculate uniform of the Imperial Guard stroke an imposing figure, but his smile was one of confidence if not warmth. Walking around the desk with a tokuri, it's a small bulbous ceramic flask with a narrow neck, in hand. Even from this distance, the distinct scent of the rice wine reached my nostrils and conjured up more than a few associations I had with that particular smell.

"Sake? It's a good vintage, it might help calm your nerves" he stated, more than asked as he poured an ample quantity into my flat saucer-like cup. I didn't touch it, I didn feel like drinking. I didn't want to drink. Not right now"

"Alright miss Jones; I want you to slowly recount your story for me, once more please. From the start this time.2 He sat himself down in the chair opposite to me. Removing his standard issued military visor hat to reveal a clean-shaven head that gave the already intimidating man a look of authority. He clearly wasn't used to being contradicted. But I had to, it simply wasn't in my mind to refuse a request. Not anymore, not after what was done to me.

"All of it?" I hated how squeaky and fragile my voice sounded just then, but it wasn't a task I relished by any means, my life was in ruins and all I could think of was getting home as soon as possible. He had promised I?d see my parents first thing when the debriefing had been concluded to his satisfaction. I sighed inwardly, knowing the reply before he gave it.

"I understand this is difficult, but you have to understand the validity of your story might be brought into question. All of it, from the start."

"This will soon be over, and then I can return home." I repeated that mantra in my head again, and again. I steadied my breathing and started telling my tale once more.

"My real name is Kim Jones; I'm twenty-four and part of the Student Exchange Division between Tokyo University and the University of Birmingham Medical School in England. You can call my friend Aimi Yokoyama, she'll confirm it. Everyone started calling me Kiyomi because one of the secretaries got my name wrong on the first day, and issued me a nametag with Kiyomi on it, and it's just stuck ever since."

"You've told us as much, I'm more interested in hearing how exactly... this... happened. I'll ask you a few continuing questions to steer the story in the right direction" He says, gesturing in my general direction while nodding encouragingly for me to go on.

Does the Officer listen to my full story?
