Into the trees

"If I run down the road they'll just drive and catch up with me, I'll never lose them that way. That forest seems like the only way" and so you begin running directly ahead across the road, jump over the ditch and into the trees. They seem quite dense and slow you down, you have to keep your hands out as not to get twigs into your face.

After a few minutes you begin to calm down, you notice that your feet, knees and hands hurt, the running barefoot in the woods really isn't helping things. "This was a mistake, I need to go back to the road and hope a car comes by so I can hitch a ride. I have to get away from here", the path back is easy to find. But you go diagonally, you don't want to just get back to school. After what feels like a long and somewhat painful trek the trees stop and you enter field, there are horses in the distance. To your left there's a asphalt road.

The road is a lonely and dangerous thing, after what feels like hours the first car drives past you. The sun is oppressively hot. Your bunny suit gives no protection, the asphalt feels harsh on your bare scraped feet, the wind blows away your tears, regret seeps into your thoughts. You begin to regret taking the key, if only you could have stayed none of this would happened. Regret lead to despair, you wonder if this is how it ends.
