Chapter 36: Interviews

By the end of the week Thomas had all the candidates. After he had placed his order, each girl left for the allocated hotel only to be accosted by either Michael or Hannah. The sharper girls realised what their assailant told them and immediately followed him or her. The couple that did not Thomas had to pick up from the hotel.

The full interviews took place in a much higher of class of establishment then the prospective employees were used to. 9 girls had made it this far and would be interviewed at 3 a day and not unsurprisingly this caused the baronet to gain quite a reputation for having such a voracious appetite. He could probably have afforded to just buy all the waitresses at one go but that would have been considered exceedingly bad form and far more powerful men than him visited The Doll King, even if such libertine like behaviour was more frowned upon in the later years of the 18th century.

The interviews took the following format:

1. In front of the doctor and the 3 interviewers the girl stripped naked and laid on a table where she would be examined for signs of the various poxes. Of course these girls were inspected every week so none were rejected on this basis.

2. Still on the table, Lord Thirsk and Lady Hannah Selby gave the candidate a good groping, which they claimed was a physical test but was really an emotional one as the judges observed the contestant’s reactions to each grasp and poke inflicted them.

3. Then the cross questioning, with the now upright naked interrogee, designed to see if any of the girls had talked about their first interview to which they had been sworn to secrecy. Any information revealed by the wrong girl would obviously lead to suspicion about the discretion of the source of that ‘knowledge’.

4. Hannah produced a huge wooden strap-on dildo, removed her robe and attached it. She invited the girl to climb onto the interview table while Michael released his cock. Slightly surprisingly one candidate pulled out at which point the triumvirate issued the strongest possible threat and locked her in a spare room until they were confident any threat of exposure had been eliminated. 5. Next the job was explained to them. The girls would essentially be maids with benefits. They would be paid a princely sum of £5 a week, which was several times as much as the most senior servants or a skilled worker at the time, regardless of whether they actually worked. In addition they would accrue a bonus at the same rate payable in full only if their employers were certain that events in the club remained secret. They would of course have to swear a blood oath to the club just in case the financial incentive was not sufficient. As servants they would be responsible for serving drinks and food, as provided by the cook, but costumes would vary and club members would be permitted to touch them wherever and however they chose. Naturally the remit included cleaning, fetching and heating water. Occasionally they would be called upon to provide more explicit sexual services and in an emergency might have to act as security.

6. Finally came the applicant’s questions followed by generous recompense for their valuable time and co-operation.

The three founders of the New Hellfire Club chose 4 girls including Musetta, who had been surprised and pleased that the bonus was twice what she had been told and with those wages she did not care what they did to her. The ‘waitresses’ would have to leave their current employment immediately but it was a transient business so they were not really missed. A cook who was an ex-madam was chosen to keep the girls in order. 2 soldiers were to undertake the security aspects as well as 2 footmen to provide further entertainment

Thirsky and Hannah stayed on in London to continue the search for and the vetting of suitable members, although naturally initiation rites would have to be passed, in addition to their hobby of corrupting young nobles. Sir Thomas had a lot of business at Gillamoor Court, not least a letter from his wife regarding her family troubles, and so returned home.
