Interrupted

Just as Alice pressed in tighter to my ear to say something else, a couch from the nearby doorway interrupted us. We both turned to see who it was.

“Hey, Zoey!” Alice smiled as she turned around, though I thought I saw a slight flush to her cheeks? "I was just... introducing myself to Jason here! Ya know, helping him with his drink.” She kept smiling and handed my beer back to me.

“I’m sure you were.” The new girl, Zoey, smiled back, but there was some kind of invisible tension between them. I recognized Zoey from earlier. She was the girl giving me the strange look out there, while her voice... she was the one in the hall earlier! The who saw me... “Well, I’m sure you’re missed next door,” she continued.

“Sure!” Alice gave a little hop, turning to beam a smile at me. “I’ll see you later, Bambi!” She winked and headed out of the kitchen, leaving me alone with Zoey as she headed to the fridge and got a drink for herself.
