Insert the rod into the stone panel.

You pick up the rod from the stone column and push it into the hole in the stone panel in front of you. The rod is a perfect fit. As it sinks fully into the panel, you hear a familiar rumbling noise. Then the stone panel begins to sink down into the floor. You step over it and continue down the tunnel.

The tunnel opens out into a vast chamber in the centre of the pyramid. A circle of high stone pillars supports the roof, which lets in light from outside through a large number of well-placed holes. The walls of the chamber are carved with images of villagers hunting, fishing, farming and generally living their lives. Some of the walls show the villagers prostrating themselves before a large pyramid with a cloud shown above it.

In the middle of the chamber is a sort of throne raised up on a small pyramid of stone steps. There seems to be a statue or figure seated on the throne. There is a small altar table made of stone in front of the throne. You see something shiny and golden in the statue's lap.

The sounds of the chief and his men are getting closer! You look for some way out of the chamber, but the only exit seems to be the tunnel you just came from.
