Chapter 22

Which garments do you chose?

Ice Cream Suit

"You're right, the suit projects the image I want." You state, and they help you put it back on and get everything straightened out with fifteen minutes to spare before interview time.

You are shown into a 'green room' where you wait for the interviewer to be ready and read a copy of today's 'Millennium Star', not sure if you are pleased or irritated to find that your foiling of the jewelry heist yesterday is on page 5, not the cover, and only has a blurb and link that direct you to an online article with more information, not even a picture, though you were gone by the time the news showed up. In fact without a computer there is hardly enough in the paper to read for 15 minutes, and you are running out of blurbs to skim by the time they come to get you.

"Hello, you call yourself 'Omaha' now correct?" The interviewer says extending a hand, as you and Martha walk out into a mostly darkened sound stage with a set so it looks like a cozy room with a fireplace, some bookshelves, and a few potted plants.

"That's right, and you are Terry Gallows correct?" You ask, recognizing him from the news as you both sit down in padded 'directors chairs' set up strategically so the cameras can get the best angles.

"So you watch CBS?" Terry asks, situating himself and adjusting, while looking at the teleprompter off sides behind your head.

"It's one of my favorite stations, I really like 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'NCIS', but was kind of disappointed NCIS killed off Director Shepard." You state honestly.

"Now before we go any further, I am required to ask for the record, this is not a scripted interview is it? Neither myself or anyone else from the station or any related organisation has told you or is telling you what to say?" He queries seriously.

"No they haven't, I'm pretty sure that you are looking at a teleprompter but there isn't one for me." You say with a smile, and Martha strangles a giggle before it can become audible to anyone but you. Terry and the other staff chuckle a bit too, neatly covering the slip, and he turns serious again.

"That's true, but you can't expect me to keep up the pace of this interview without a bit of help, I'm good but not that good." He says smiling, then flips a page in his notes. "Now according to a statement made by the Millennium City Police yesterday, 'a new and as yet unregistered meta-human citizen was instrumental along with 'Iron Man' in foiling a jewelry store robbery with no loss of life or property other than minor damage to the store and the destruction of a Chevy Traverse both inflicted by the perpetrators' was that you that they were talking about when they mentioned the unregistered individual?" He asks reading from the page in front of him rather than the teleprompter now that you have pointed out it's existence, or maybe he would have done that anyway.

"Yes, that was me." You answer simply wondering where he is going with this.

"Tell us about that, how did you come upon the robbery, why did you intervene, and what was it like?"

"Well, I had just become a meta-human the day before, and I was kind of at a loss as to what I would do with my life, I knew I couldn't pretend like nothing had changed, that would put the other people in my life at risk, so I was wandering around town trying to clear my head, when I blundered onto the scene of the robbery..." You begin and find yourself rambling on through the sequence of events that took place, furiously editing your emotions and reasoning to sound less a-moral and fatalistic even as you speak. It doesn't take long for you to get to Iron Man's little speech about vigilante-ism and registration when Terry holds up a hand.

"Let's stop there, I have another question to which you should only answer 'yes' or 'no', but truthfully. Did you go register?"

"Yes, I did." You state.

"And what job training did you select from the options offered by the M.H.M.D.?" Mr Gallows asks.

"I metricate into the Police Academy in about a month." You answer.

"So you want to go into police work? 'To serve and protect', is that right?" He queries.

"It's more that I want to make a difference for my fellow citizens, help keep them safe, and I feel joining the police **** is the best way to do that." You explain.

"You are of course aware that joining the police is not a licence to run around like one of the heroes in the old supers comic books, there's a lot of paperwork and tedium?" Terry probes,

"I'm not in this for adventure and glory, I really just want to help people and make the city a better place." You explain.

"If that's the case then there are some items I would like you to look at..."

Oh shinkies, what's he about to show you?
