IIC. The Oedipal Order

The legal hierarchy of Oedipal Zones is reflected in the doctrine of the Church of Jocasta as the "Oedipal Order." This is the belief that just as old monarchs had a divine right to rule, all roles in the Oedipal Zone caste system are the will of the gods. It is important at this point to address a key question of theological belief: does free will exist, or is all human behavior predestined? According to the Church of Jocasta, both are true.

All Alphas are destined by the gods be Alphas. As such, to go against an Alpha's will is to go against their divine will. Those that were destined to be Betas or Orphans are also designated so by the gods. However, everyone has a choice in how they will choose to live; specifically, they may follow the divine path laid out for them, or stray from it. An Alpha who lives up to his role as an Alpha will be rewarded. The same is true for Betas and Orphans. If circumstances drive a family to become Orphans, that means that they were cursed for their actions. If a Beta (or even an Orphan) becomes an Alpha, that means they were rewarded by the gods.
