IIB. Roles in the New Family Unit

For a significant portion of human history, what was considered the "nuclear family" was a husband and wife and their children. This ideal family unit has been changed in the Church of Jocasta, to be modeled after that of Oedipus and Jocasta themselves. The new family roles are as follows:

All firstborn sons are destined to be Alphas. They are meant to follow the path of Oedipus, the God of Firstborn Sons. They must grow and mature, and (once they come of age) take over as the man of the house. It is their job to usurp their father, subjugate their younger brothers, and protect and procreate with their mothers, sisters, daughters, other female relatives, and any other women of Beta or Orphan status.

All mothers are destined to give birth to and raise future Alphas. They are meant to follow the path of Jocasta, the Goddess of Mothers. A good mother will eventually be responsible with taking the virginity of her Alpha son, marrying him, and having his children. She will also raise any daughters to be good future lovers and wives of Alphas, and good future mothers to their children.

All fathers are destined to help provide for their families. Once their firstborn sons come of age, they are expected to give up their claim to being the man of the house, and be among the Betas of their Alpha son. Any fathers who cannot produce an Alpha heir or fight against their new status as Betas are sinners, going against the Oedipal Order; many end up banished to an Orphantown, living as a lowly Local.

All daughters are destined to be future lovers and wives of their Alpha brothers. They should develop into good future mothers and servants, and are expected to follow the will of their Alpha brothers. If they are blessed, they will be lucky enough to give birth to and raise the next Alpha heir of the family.

All younger brothers are destined to follow the will of their Alpha brothers. They were born to be Betas for a reason, and if the divines will it, they may be blessed with becoming the new Alpha if the current Alpha gives up their status. However, if their Alpha brother dies and foul play is suspected, they are more likely to become Orphantown Locals.
