I have dinner with mum

I am having dinner with my mum. Today I prepared a green bean salad and a noodle soup with chicken.

"Lisa, how was your day at school?" my mum asks.

"School was ok. I did make new friends today." I reply.

My mum touches my hand, "That's great Lisa. I am very happy for you. I hope you will settle in your new school quickly and can focus on your studies. I am sorry that we had to move so sudden. However this job here does pay much better and we had problems to make ends meet. You know there are still some debts I have to repay."

My mum was working in a callcenter before. The pay was barely enough for us to get by and I have offered her to work part-time a few times. However my mum was having none of it and always told me to focus on my studies.

"Thank you mum. I know you are doing your best and I love you." I smile weakly.

"I love you too Lisa. Is there something you want to ask? I can tell that there is something on your mind."

"It is about my father. You told me he used to live in this city before. I thought we..."

Not letting me finish what I want to say my mum jumps up and starts shouting at me. "No Lisa! I know exactly what you are thinking. You want to look for the bastard, don't you? I won't help you to meet that **** ever and I forbid you to look for him. Why can't you listen to me and just forget about him, he is a terrible person!"

"I am sorry mum, please don't cry. I will listen to you. I promise."

My mum is crying hard as always when we touch this topic and I feel like a terrible person to bring it up.
