Gently,

I brought our conversation to a close

At the second, or perhaps the third, invocation of some new continental philosopher, the talk began to wear on me to the point of tedium, or at least exhaustion. I was able to keep my eyes open, but I had no desire to hear more on her topics at this time. Not with work the next day; not while my mission to discover the Association Rose+Croix lingered at hand and incomplete.

We passed the remainder of the evening in companionable silence. I believe I was reading a novel at the time, and she was reading a tract of verse. As the evening turned into night, I dimmed the lights and bid her good-night. She wished me the same, and we parted to our respective chambers.
