Chapter 5 by rob goodfellow rob goodfellow

Help close down the bar or head home?

Home it is

You sigh heavily and shake your head.

"I know I'm going to regret this, but it's been a long day and..." you trail off.

The bartender laughs at your dismay.

"Okay," she relents. "Hell, it was worth a shot. But I get it. You go, and take care of your roommate. Just remember. Nice guys finish last, sugar. Come on back here sometime and you can have a few on the house."

"Thanks." you say before stuffing your hands in your pockets and trudging out the door.

"What just happened?" you ask yourself. You know that you've jumped at the chance of burying yourself to the hilt in any woman who so much as winks at you. Why did you stop now? Was it because Roxy was in need and you put her first? Conflicted, you head back to the car.

Inside Roxy has the music blaring as she dances in her seat as best she can. You swing open the car door and punch the radio off.

"Hey!" she protests.

You don't say a word as you slam your door closed, gun the engine and pull out quickly, leaving a bit of rubber behind as you go.

You don't say a word. Your roommate might be the coolest chick you've ever met. She might be the best looking chick you've ever met. But she just cost you some seriously nice tits and you're not in the mood to consider these facts at present.

Silence reigns supreme until you hit the highway. Roxy shifts in her seat uncomfortably and says, "Listen, I'm really sorry. I should have known better and..."

"Yeah, you think?" You say, cutting her off. "And what's with that get up? I mean, I've seen you go out pretty scantily clad before, but what are you thinking walking into a place like THAT looking like THIS?" You gesture to her attire. "For fuck's sake, what would have happened if I didn't come to get you?"

She stares ahead mirthlessly. For another mile or so, the silence creeps back in. Finally, she says, "I'm sorry. Honestly. It's...been awhile. And I just found out that this guy I had been seeing was cheating on me--"

"Why's that such a big deal? I know you've seen a couple people in the last few weeks."

"He was cheating on me with his wife," she says flatly.

"Oh."

"I don't know, I've just been fucked up over it and wanted to forget it all. I didn't mean for any of it to be your mess. I just wanted to be..." she can't seem to find the word.

"Adored," you fill in the blank.

"Special. To someone."

You take your eyes off the road to look at her for a moment. She catches your gaze as you say, "Roxy, don't kid yourself--even for a fucking second--into thinking you're not spectacular."

She smirks and looks away, pretending to fidget with her hair.

"I'm sorry I was a dick to you just now," you say. "You wanna get something to eat?"

"Ugh, no, food right now is a bad idea. But..." she lingers on the last word and you peek over at her again. She's running her fingernails slowly up her legs. "I could stand to be filled up. If you know what I mean."

"R-r-oxy," you stammer. "We can't. We're roommates and--"

"Yes, I am aware of that. But, Roomie, you need to shut the fuck up and let me show you some gratitude. It's the least I can do. So...how do you want me?"

You can barely speak, much less pull your jaw up from the floor. Your mind reels in the possibilities.

Can you make it home?
