Hit on Your Potential Audience

“I don't know about a lucky person, but you know, a cute girl out there who’s listening could certainly get lucky,” you say.

Jeanne giggles for a second and goes red in the face, clearly a little flustered. “Um.. I think we’ll keep that bit off the record… But you’re serious?” You nod. “I can’t believe you don’t have a girlfriend,” she continues, sounding bewildered. “I mean, you’re so talented, and good looking…” She trails off, flushing again.

You jump in to save her from herself: “I broke up with my last girlfriend before coming to college, because, you know, distance. Since then, I’ve had a few flings, but nothing serious. And come on, cut me some slack - it’s only been two days since I’ve been out of the hospital. I like to keep an open mind though, and I’m willing to give anyone a chance.”

“Well, maybe the lucky girl’s out there reading this,” Jeanne quickly says, something looking like disappointment flashing through her face.

“I can take that maybe and make it a reality,” you reply, winking at her. “Well, what other questions have you got for me?”

Jeanne takes a second to recover, before she clears her throat and asks you something about getting to work with people in the music industry and what that’s like.

The rest of the interview goes by with a comfortable back and forth, and you make sure to not-so-subtly flirt with Jeanne and any potential readers through the bulk of it. The disarmed pauses and torn looks she gives you are all you need to keep on with it. She eventually asks you the final question - “What would you like to say to your fans?”, and looks relieved as you don’t directly poke fun at her again.

“Thanks so much for taking the time today, Alex,” Jeanne says. “You’ve done me a massive favour, you wouldn’t believe it! And sorry to keep saying this, but it’s crazy to meet you in person!”

“Yeah, I had a blast too,” you say, genuinely meaning it. You give her a warm hug goodbye, a parting peck on the cheek (watch how her cheeks flush!), and head to your first class of the day.
