Chapter 6

Who is it?

His mom

James opened the door to see his mom standing in front of the door. “Hey, mom. Now’s not a good time. Can you come back in a few minutes?”

“No,” James’s mom said. “I’ve come to visit. Now, aren’t you going to invite me in?”

James clutched the towel. “I… I’m finishing my shower,” James said.

“I don’t care. Let me in now or I’ll tan your hide just like I used to do,” his mom said, crossing her arms.

James’s eyes widened. “Alright, come in,” James said as he stepped to the side.

Evelyn Jordan sat down on the couch and then looked around. “This place is a mess,” Evelyn said. “You haven’t been keeping it tidy.”

James looked around to see some clothes strewn, some leftover food, and other things. “Sorry, I wasn’t expecting company,” James said.

“Go clean up,” Evelyn said.

James nodded as he began picking up plates and trash with one hand and kept the other on his towel.

“Use both hands,” Evelyn said.

James’s eyes widened. “But mom…”

“Don’t argue. Just do it,” Evelyn said.

James sighed. He let go of the towel and began picking things up. He hoped that the towel would stay.
