What's next?
Heroes or Killers?
"Are you sure?" asked Karen as she leaned on the desk and looked down at Helen, who was sitting in the big chair in front of her.
"She's on her way here. I'm absolutely sure of it." Nodded Helen confidently, cleaning her hand crossbow as she did so. "It's starting just like our reality."
Karen sighed and nodded while looking at Helen's files. The police report spoke of a redheaded woman involved in various cases of accidents or strange events. Helen seemed to be on the right track. Even though Karen was not familiar with her background, she knew her role in the war that led to the destruction of their universe.
"Do you think she's coming here to kill the doctor?" she finally asked, putting the files on the desk. She crossed her arms under her breasts and looked out the window. Soon a blizzard would hit Gotham and the chaos would be perfect. So far it was manageable, but the weather report indicated it would get much worse.
"Of course. She's a fucking psychopath. That miserable bitch needs to be stopped before she goes as crazy as she did on our World." Said Helen, growling angrily to herself. Karen knew this mood all too well. It was clearly Huntress talking.
"We could talk to Bruce about it. If he knows what's going to happen, he can stop her." She reasoned, but Helen scowled up at her.
"And then what? Do we put her to Arkham? Come on! How many times did the whore break out of there? Or worse. How many times has she taken over the place?"
"Helen. What are you planning to do?" asked Karen quietly, even though she knew exactly what was coming now.
"What do you think? I'm going to visit her and put a fucking bolt through her skull." She grinned and loaded the crossbow with one of her special bolts.
"You can't do that." Said Karen calmly and stood up and walked to the window. Even now it was clear how Gotham was turning into a winter wonderland.
"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Helen in amazement, turning her chair to follow Karen.
"It means we're not executioners Helen. We are ... we were heroes! We are the good ones!" Karen said, trying to sound as convinced as possible, even though she didn't really succeed.
"Oh, so we're heroes? You may have been one once, but I never took that hero crap seriously! I’m Bruce's daughter and I've learned where his bullshit do-gooding leads. Besides, we stopped being heroes when we killed your cousin!" Helen said much harsher than they had intended. The look she caught from Karen was terrifying.
" Be careful!" said Karen and although she was a submissive slave to Helen in all aspects, this was a sore spot where her former willpower flashed through.
"I'm sorry Karen!" said Helen, actually meaning it. "We had no other choice. He was a slave to Darkside but we're not in that world anymore. In this one we can straighten things out that will lead to the events in our world."
"Straighten things out? You're talking about killing people!" said Karen, continuing to glare angrily towards her. It bothered her that Helen had mentioned Kal'El's assassination. Even though she really had had no choice, it was still something that weighed especially heavily on her shoulders.
"So what? What bothers you about it?" asked Helen, somewhat surprised. "We've done worse!"
"For better reasons!" hissed Karen back immediately, taking a deep breath. "We could try to change it, couldn't we!"
"What do you have in mind?" asked Helen, knowing she couldn't go too far if Karen was that up for it. Darkside's brainwashing had made her submissive and subservient, but not stripped of her conscience.
"That I will talk to her. Try to convince her that it's a wrong way to go."
"You really think that bitch will listen to you?" asked Helen laughing out loud.
"Yes, I do. Because unlike you, I have no backstory with her! And besides, I can be pretty damn convincing when I want to be." Smiled Karen while her eyes lit up and radiated a noticeable heat.
"And what are you going to do if she won't listen to you?"
"I will not let her kill the doctor. If I have to, I'll do it by ripping her head off her shoulders." She said coolly and Helen nodded. The two of them had been through too much for Helen not to trust her to do that. When Karen set her mind to something she would follow all the way through. Helen was sure that she would follow her orders, but a small part of her humanity thought that maybe Karen was right. Finally, she nodded quietly and said calmly.
"Fine by me. We'll try your way... but if that doesn't work, we'll use more violent methods. If that is too much for you, I will do it for you."
"Thank you for letting me do this Mistress!" said Karen much calmer and in a better mood.
"You realize you're going to make amends for this tonight, don't you?" grinned Helen, and Karen grinned too as she thought of all the lovely punishments that awaited her tonight. "But let's move on to another point. How did it go in Metropolis? Did you deliver the message?"
"Of course. I suppose he got the message." Nodded Karen as the door opened and Dr. Philips stuck his head through the crack. Without even looking Helen turned her arm with the crossbow in his direction and fired the bolt. Just beside the doctor, the bolt hit the wall and then slowly she turned fully to face the man who was staring at the bolt, white as a sheet.
"Doctor Philips. I did say that my door is always open to my teachers and students, but that does not mean that anyone is allowed to come in here without knocking!" she said sternly, placing the crossbow on the table. Karen had to grin as she watched all this. At this distance, there was no need for Helen to aim.
" You...you shot at me!" stammered Garry in confusion, staring at the woman in the large armchair. At the moment, the petite dark-haired woman looked much more dangerous than the titanic blonde behind her.
"Doctor Philips. Don't make a fool of yourself. If I had wanted to hit you, you wouldn't be able to talk to me now!" Helen said amusedly while Karen walked over to the bolt and looked at it more closely. It had hit almost perfectly in the center of the target hanging on the wall, though it was clearly visible that it was stuck a few millimeters from the hole of the last hit.
"Miss Wayne. I have to say. Half a mm off the last hit!" she said reprovingly, and Helen sprang up from the chair and pushed Karen aside.
"WHAT?!"
"Are you a little preoccupied?" smiled Karen, amused, and could imagine exactly what Helen had just been thinking about.
"Pffff!" said Helen just offended and pulled the bolt out of the target. "What can I do for you Doctor?!" she asked, clearly displeased.
Meanwhile in Metropolis.
"How the hell did that happen?" asked Lex, pointing to the wall of his loft in Lex Tower.
Mercy stood in front of him, swallowing hard. "Sir. I don't... have an explanation yet!" she said meekly, and Lex pointed to the windows.
"These windows are 19cm thick and can withstand a tactical nuclear weapon! How do I know that? Because I developed them myself! So once again! HOW did THAT happen?" asked Lex angrily, pointing at the wall in which clear burn marks were visible. An enormous heat source had not only melted the windows, but also damaged the wall itself. Clearly you could see the burn marks there that were a warning.
"LEAVE GOTHAM ALONE!"
