The man yells to the others and there is an explosion of motion, as some turn to run, some open fire to cover their escape, and one tosses a grenade in your direction! Choice made for you, you take cover behind a parked car and then leap onto the roof of the building.

Moments later the car, now riddled with bullet holes, is tossed into the air by the explosion of the frag grenade underneath it, a blast which could well have killed you, your testing of your abilities having shown you that while you are moderately resistant to damage, you certainly are not bullet proof and your best defense is not getting hit in the first place.

You run across the roof to the back ally behind the store and are rewarded with finding a parked van, engine running, with the doors open and into which the thieves are scrambling. You waste no time jumping onto the front bumper and ripping the hood off it's hasp, up into the face of the driver. It is the simplest of matters to yank free a few wires and cables, though you get some electrical burns in the process, and render the van inoperative.

Knowing that the thieves are almost certainly about to get out and try to shoot you again you leap onto another roof, out of sight of the robbers, and crouch there as an argument breaks out among the would be bandits, in a language you don't know, but that you THINK sounds like Russian. When suddenly you hear the wail of squad cars approaching and a whine that sounds like a fighter jet, and you realize you have a choice to make: sign up with the 'Meta-human Mobilization Department', or become a 'vigilante' like the 'dark knight' Batman from the old comic books. If you stay the police will make sure you sign up, but if you become a vigilante you will have most of the problems of being a villain, but none of the benefits.
