"Anyone special?" you ask Mary as you lie naked on top of her in her marriage bed.

"Oh, hon," Mary says. "I might come off like a wild woman, you know, the way you met me. But mostly I stick close to home. I think the ladies I'm closest to these days are my prayer circle."

"Yes, Gloria," she says. "It was started by a nice lady who came to town a couple years back, Martha Sue McRae. She was in a church choir, and, you know, her pastor ran off with her. Scandal, had to leave town and all. But the terrible man, his eyes were still wandering, and what d'you know, he was off with some other gal, and here she was. Now my honeybear might have some other ladies to welcome him on the road, but he always comes home to me. So Martha didn't like any of the churches around here, so she started out a prayer circle. I found out about it from Mandy at work -- she cooks on my shift, we've worked together for years -- and it's been so sweet. We read the love and kindness verses together, take up a little collection, and choose a charity to give to each week. There's even a nurse from your hospital, she started coming along."

"That sounds nice," you say, a little puzzled. "These are your special ladies, your prayer circle?"

"Oh, well, it's not just a prayer circle," Mary says. "Anyone feeling lonely or needing a little something, we give her affection. Mandy and I, we've been that way for years. I stole my Brian from her, but, well, I've made it up to her as best I can. I love her pie. And we opened that door for Martha Sue. One or the other of us will make sure she touches Heaven when she feels the need. Such a sweet lady. And that nurse, Madeleine, well, I think she's from your Birth Center, if I got it right.
