Her Father

Weiss thinks about it for a moment, before finally coming to a conclusion.

"I want to change my father," she says.

Ruby is stunned by this. "Oh. Any particular reason why?"

"He's not that great of a person. All he cares about is the Schnee name, which he married into. He mistreats his workers, especially the Faunus workers. He's done many things in an attempt to make me like him, and the only reason I'm the heiress to the SDC is because he failed to make my older sister, Winter, into someone like him.

"He's even the reason I have this scar," Weiss continues while gesturing to her left eye. "He wanted me to go to Atlas Academy, but I told him that I wanted to come here to Beacon. So he had me fight a giant suit of armor possessed by a bunch of Geist Grimm. It got one lucky punch to my face and left me with this deformity on my face."

By this point, Weiss started crying as she recalled all the terrible things her father has done to her and her family. Ruby was caught off guard by this, as she's never seen Weiss cry before. The only time that came close to this was during the dance when Neptune rejected her.

Wanting to cheer her up in any way she can, Ruby wrapped her arms around Weiss and gently, but firmly, hugged her. Weiss was not prepared for the sudden hug, nor did she get very many of them, so she tensed up.

"It's okay Weiss," Ruby said in a soothing tone. "He may have been a bad person, and he's done some horrible stuff to you, but he is one of the reasons you are who you are today. We can change him into a better person, but I feel that we should keep it in the present and not mess around with the past at all. And, although it comes with some bad memories, I personally like your scar. I think it makes you look tough and cool and a little more beautiful if I'm being totally honest."

Now it was Weiss' turn to be stunned at what she heard. "What do you mean? Why can't we change the past?" she asked. The fact that Ruby just complemented her hasn't yet registered in her mind yet.

"Well," Ruby began. "When I was a little girl, a toddler to be precise, I lost my mother, Summer Rose, while she was on a mission. I was too young at the time to really have any lasting memories of her, so I only know what my dad, uncle, and Yang told me about her. Many times I wished I could somehow change the past so that I never lost her and I could have memories of her that I could cherish.

"But then, one day, I stumbled upon a book that was about time travel. I read it hoping to find a way to go back and change things, but all I found was reasons why I shouldn't. It said that the past makes us all who we are, and if we change the past, we risk losing all the experience we gained from whatever happened since the change as well as risk putting the present in jeopardy. Ever since I read that book I realized that any good that could come from messing with the past is greatly outweighed by all the bad things that could happen instead, so I stopped thinking about anything that involves changing history."

Weiss was left speechless after that. She never knew that Ruby had such wisdom. Now she truly understood why Ruby was the leader of Team RWBY and not her.

It was at this moment that Ruby's comment about her scar finally processed, and it was what snapped her out of her state to stupefaction.

"Wait!" she exclaimed. "You think my scar makes me prettier!?"

Ruby was startled by her sudden exclamation. "Y-yes," she responded meekly. "D-did you just now realize what I said?" she asked while taking on a look of a child that was caught doing something wrong and was sorry that only served to make herself look cuter, although that was not her intent.

Weiss was greatly affected by Ruby's new level of cuteness and became flush in the face. "Y-yes. I was still stuck on what you said about not changing the past that it took awhile for me to realize it. And, about what you just said, I'm sorry about your mother, and I understand why you want to avoid changing the past. So, let's work together to come up with a good way for my father to change."

At that, Weiss stood up and extended her hand towards Ruby with a gentle smile on her lips. Ruby looked at it for awhile before returning Weiss' smile and taking her hand, letting Weiss pull her off of the floor of their dorm. And with that, the two partners worked together to brainstorm a way to change Jacques Schnee.
