Chapter 13 by UnrulyDogboy UnrulyDogboy

Do you help?

Help Deshawn revive Mateo

Mateo was passed out on Jake's bed. Deshawn checked if Mateo was breathing.

"I don't think he's breathing. Fuck, I don't feel a pulse. You know CPR?"

You did. Careful to avoid the necklace, you moved Mateo to the floor and started chest compressions. Deshawn grabbed your phone and dialed 911. You did chest compressions, and Deshawn took care of the breathing. The two of you administered CPR for about 4 minutes when Mateo started breathing on his own. The paramedics arrived and took Mateo to the ER. It took some fast-talking, but you convinced them to let you ride in the ambulance while Deshawn followed in his jeep. When you arrived at the hospital, Mateo looked well on the way to recovery. The doctors in the ER couldn't find anything wrong. When they asked what happened, you made up a story about a frayed electrical cord. After three hours, Mateo was discharged, and Deshawn drove you all to a diner and treated everyone to a meal. You left the table to use the bathroom, Mateo followed.

Finally, a moment when we can talk.

"Thanks for telling me everything today, and thanks for staying with me. It meant a lot to me."

"What kind of friend would I be if I ran away."

"What did we learn? There is a whole lot of strange shit going down and don't touch the vial. What I want to know is, who was that guy? "

"What guy?"

"When you touched the necklace, you started twitching like you were having a seizure. I couldn't move. Then the specter of a man came out of you and reached into my chest. I think that's what stopped my heart."

"I need to talk to HC. I'll let you know what I learn. I guess it goes without saying, don't tell anyone."

"Don't tell anyone what?"

Deshawn walked into the bathroom. You and Mateo exchanged a guilty look. Deshawn pressed up against you.

"I am trained in extracting information. Just kidding. Get the rest of your food to go; I need to drop you off and go to an ROTC thing."

By the time you got back to campus, Mateo looked exhausted.

After what he went through today, I don't know how he is still on his feet.

You helped him to his room and into bed.

"Thanks again. I won't forget what you did for me."

Rest until evening
