Chapter 3 by Clawaria Clawaria

Where to next?

Head to the bar

I took my good time in packing up, mulling over the previous events. I guess I would never really know whether or not the map was real, unless the "sacred star" showed up. I made a copy of the wall map, just in case. Even the half of the map that was supposedly on my arm wouldn't help much if I only had that half.

I then drove to the town. Upon reaching the town, a small village called "Rio de grillos", which translates to "River of Crickets", I headed for the bar. The crews were already there, chatting away amiably as a few of them watched the TVs set up around the place. Since I was feeling pretty good about today, I ordered drinks for the whole crew, all on my tab. I sat down at one of the corner tables where Wallis was already sitting, probably because it was a little quieter. We began to drink, and had been at it for a good twenty minutes before Laura came over.

"That was a pretty fast translation back there, John." Laura said. "It made sense looking at it, but if I had been stuck with Wally here trying to decipher it, it might have taken days. How did you do it that fast?" I was immediately on my guard, despite my intoxicated state. Should I let my secret out, especially with Wallis listening? He was a good friend, but I wondered about losing face over this. Would it really be that amazing to be able to decipher that well, or should I keep my guise up?

Tell them?
