Head outside

You're outside, in front of your apartment building. It's a pleasant day, the sky is bright blue, nary a cloud in sight, and shining down upon it all is a big orange orb called the 'sun', which sadly shares its name with a less than reputable newspaper. There's burnt out wrecks of cars on the street, remnants of the week long fires just after the outbreak, blackened steel skeletons sitting in ennui. You wonder why things always catch fire in apocalypse movies. Well it don't matter much now. There's some infected milling about here and there, shambling about, unaware you're watching them.

In front of you, in the centre of the roundabout, is a monument surrounded on three sides by thick hedges. You've never actually payed much attention to it, but you know what they say, you live here all your life and you never check out the sights until the infected come to town. It won't take long to take a look, and the cover will guarantee you won't be seen.

The road heading north leads to farmlands and such, mostly just thickets of woods and empty fields. It might be safer up there than down here though.

To the west is the park, and further behind that is the police station. You've never been there, but you've heard from a friend that they had an unpleasant time there. Still, police have weapons, and in a pinch, a cell might be quite a safe place to rest in.

The streets going east lead to several places. There's the science college, the old school you used to go to, the gym you went to once and never went back to... Oh and most importantly, the pub, 'pig and whistle', where you spent many an evenings with your group of friends. God, you could go for a cold cider right about now.

Finally, the road south leads downtown, where the shopping mall is, as well as the tube and bus station. There's a whole bunch of little shops too. If you could think of any place that people would go to, it's there, with the well defendable main street, as well as the supplies that can be scavenged there. Though you've watched enough tv and movies to know that people are just as a dangerous threat here as anything else. If you head that way, it should be with caution.
