Head out with Judy

"I think I'm gonna head out, too," you say. "Have a good time, though!"

Judy smiles at you slightly as Derek nods. "Good ta meet ya, man. Good ta meet ya. Have a good night, both o' ya! C'mon, Leah, let's go see what's happenin'..." Leah gives Judy a quick hug, then darts obediently after Derek into the crowd.

You and Judy slip out the front door - fortunately not too far away - and into the night. You stroll through the pleasant summer evening toward the rest of campus.

"So, where're you from, Judy?" you ask conversationally.

"Maryland," she says. "Near Baltimore. You?"

"Not that far from here, all things considered," you say with a chuckle. "What made you want to come to Ephesus?"

"Well, I have a partial scholarship. That and, my parents are veeeerry conservative. They thought a Christian school would offer me more 'wholesome' environment for my studies." She snorts. "Guess they didn't know much about the place at all!"

"I don't think many people did. I certainly didn't," you say. You glance at her. "You know your guy at all?"

"Well, we met this afternoon, obviously. Anthony seems nice enough, but he's very shy. Like, painfully shy. Which is good in that he's not, like, gonna **** me to do anything - at least not right now - but also, hard to get to know someone like that, you know?" She shrugs. "What about you?"

"Jenny's...well, she seems like a strong woman, and she's not enthusiastic about this whole arrangement."

Judy laughs. "I don't think most of us are. Though some, maybe...but I imagine it feels rather different if you're on the male end of things. What do you make of this whole arrangement, this 'maidservant' thing? What's your take?"

You hesitate, reflecting - both on what you feel, and on what to tell her.
