Head in to work

Eric made his way to the indian restraunt, on the way he passed what looked like a crashed truck and SUV, it had been on fire but now the wreckers were dragging the wrecks onto flatbeds. all the while traffic snarled up around them converging to the single remaining lane of open traffic while police stood around waving cars along.

Twenty minutes later Eric arrived at the restraunt, he knocked on the alleyway door around the back as he had been directed and one of the kitchen staff. an Indian teen opened the door and gestured him inside. Inside the kitchen was very hot and busy.

"first time in a restraunt kitchen?" asked the teen, as he lent back against the sink behind him and looked Eric up and down.

"uh yeah, ive done the same job in a quiet cafe and other places, is it always this busy?" Eric had to raise his voice to be heard.

"you ain't seen nothing my friend, tonight there is a jazz festival up the street. bound to be busy as hell tonight" he said with a grin. "the names Arjun, im a kitchen hand here at my families restraunt. my mother asked me to show to how we do things here while it's still quiet, she will be along later. I think your pay is like 8 dollars an hour but don't quote me on that, you will have to speak to my mother about that."

"I'm Eric. ok show me what I am doing"

After learning the basics Eric finds the work easy enough although as the night continues the dishes start to come in at an astonishing rate. Thankfully Arjun pitches in a couple of times as Eric starts to get inundated with dishes.

Another dishwasher turns up later that night allowing Eric to take a breather, the kitchen was staggeringly hot with everything running flat out. Eric is tired as hell. its the first real work he has done in more than a year and he has not had to stand in one place doing the same repetitive task for so long in a while.

Eric is stuffed and hot and hurting all over...
