As Peter went deeper then he had ever been in the hypnotic trance, Killgraves continued, "Peter, I think the issue between you, your wife and Felicia is linked to the origins of your powers. You remember when you first gained your powers? What did you do with them?"
"When I got them, I wanted to use them for personal gain. Fame, fortune, and to pick up hotties. But then the burgler robbed the box office and I let him go, which ended up leading to my uncle's ****. Then there was the attack by Beck and I was blacklisted as a performer. Soon after I became a hero." Peter explained as he went over a quick version of his origins.
"I think that could explain things. You wanted the things you thought you had earned, what you deserved from all of the pressures of your youth. Wealth, Women, and Fame. Then tragedy happened and you tried to live the life you thought your uncle wanted, especially after your showbiz career failed.
Mary Jane represents this. She's the girl next door, introduced by your aunt. To lead to a life of white picket fences and all that. She is what you think the love of your life should be. Felicia, however, is what you deep down want. More selfish desires that you have been telling your self you don't want, don't deserve. But the truth is, deep down in the darkest hidden part of you, you feel a link with her. A connection, of being made of similiar stuff. Wanting what you want and then taking it. But your guilt from your uncle's **** and the ones that followed, has caused your to fight this and sacrifice of yourself beyond your limits.
Your uncle told you, with great power must come great responsibility. You took that to mean that you could use your powers for others the majority of the time. You forget that you all have a responsibility to yourself. To your wants, your needs, your happiness.
And maybe this is the time to start thinking of that. Beginning with Felicia, perhaps?"
