Thinking as fast as he had in the jungle Lester turned his back as if giving her privacy, his movement carrying him in front of the booth exit closest to her, effectively cutting off escape.
Kjerstin jerked back at his sudden movement, then froze, staring at his broad back, realizing that Lester was giving her privacy, not lunging for her as had been her first thought. Swallowing nervously she reached forward for the towel, eying him as if he might change his mind, turn, and lunge at her.
"I... I am sorry," she said, feeling she had to say something. Americans were so funny about nudity she wondered if she might have offended the man. "It was an accident. I am very sorry. I should have changed before..."
Lester waved the frying pan he held. "No need to apologize. I admit, it was a bit of a shock, but it's not exactly the worst surprise I've ever had. If only the enemies I fought in the army were half as pretty..." he paused. "Well, that's not at all an appropriate thing to say and I apologize. I'll understand if you don't want to stay for breakfast, but I'd hate for the food to get any colder than it is..."
"No no, let us eat," Kjerstin said. In truth she wanted to change, but she felt guilty about making the poor man uncomfortable and wanted to save the situation. It had to have been strange for him, a man so much older than her, to see such a young girl nude in such an abrupt fashion. And yet he turned so quickly. Most men would have stared at her. Did that mean he didn't find her attractive? Or was he past the age of looking at young women?
"Please sit. Let us eat. I'm sure the food is good," she said, smiling as he turned around slowly, his eyes darting to and from her as if he was afraid he'd see her naked again.
"Well, alright then," Lester said, and dished out the food. An omelet, some bacon and a few pancakes filled their plates and the two set about eating.
