Chapter 13 by FallenSaint FallenSaint

What does Beldan say?

He starts asking questions

Beldan looks through the two documents for a while in silence before he looked up at her. She could see something light up in his eyes, but couldn't tell what. This frightened her a little.

"This says you were born and raised in the nearby village of New Canterbury and that your family were farmers."

"Yes sir, the farm has been passed down through our family for years."

"It also says that you were always in attendance to Church meetings and sermons, but that your family wasn't."

Winlay cringed involuntarily. Although she was a firm believer in Xelta and his love for his people, her father was well known for his heretical claims that Xelta was nothing but a mortal man (And a poor pilot) and not worth the hide off one of his Pandor Cows. Although her mother was also faithful to Xelta, she was meek and quiet and refused to go against her husband's wishes. Winlay was left to go to Church on her own, and had never been successful in bringing her father into Xelta's arms.

"That is only partially true sir. My mother loves Xelta, but my father is not a man of faith."

Beldan made a grand show of frowning and looked down at the second document for a moment. Winlay wasn't sure what he was getting at with all the questions, but she found it unsettling.

"The Speaker at your Church, he speaks highly of you. I knew of your comming even before you stepped foot in the Holy Capital."

"That gives me great honor sir."

"He asked that you be sent back to him as a nun." Beldan paused and Winlay hoped he didn't see the disgust in her eyes. She had left New Canterbury because of a fight with her father. He had been waiting for her after church one day to tell her she was never to attend sermon again. She had argued with him until the Speaker, a young man named Brother Salvis, stepped in. Salvis had allowed Winlay to stay at the church that night and the next morning she had left for the Holy Capital. Returning meant another confrontation with her father. Thankfully Beldan continued.

"But I do not believe that is the best way you can be of service to Xelta my child. No, you are not one that we should leave in a small village with little hope of reaching the world with Xelta's love."

Winlay felt relief flood through her body until he continued.

"My child, do you know all the ways that our faithful spread Xelta's love and message?"

Does She?
