He is naked.

"Look down," she said.

Nate looked down and saw that he was completely naked, without even shoes or socks. But something didn't seem right...

"I don't understand," he said.

"What is it don't you understand?"

He didn't remember getting undressed, or dressed for that matter. Why was he naked? Was he like this in class? He must have been, because he walked straight here without stopping. But surely his teacher would have said something. And if he was naked in class, doesn't that mean he walked off the bus like this? He couldn't remember if anyone had given him any weird looks. The secretary, what about her, did she even look at him when she waved him in? He didn't know if he could trust his memory, because for all he knew he was clothed up until about ten seconds ago, but logic told him that he could not have lost his clothes in that amount of time, and if he did he would certainly be aware of it.

So either he has been losing time, leaving gaps in his memory, or he had been naked for longer than he thought. He looked back up at Ms. Cole.

"What time is it?" he asked.

"What time is it? That is your question? Well, that wasn't the response I was expecting."

"Just answer it please."

"Sure." She looked at the clock up her wall next to the door, to her right and his left. "It's about a quarter till eight."

He saw the clock and verified that what she said was correct. That meant he had been in class about half an hour. He had been daydreaming, so that left a lot of time unaccounted for.

"Um, is everything alright?" said Ms. Cole. He looked up at her.

"I'm not sure. I'm a little confused."

"Why don't you tell me why you are confused."

"Well," he gestured to himself, "I'm naked."

"Yes, you are."

This conversation was about as surreal as the situation itself. Nate just wanted to know what was going on.
