He heads for English

Rot handed Mr. Moss the note Mrs. Stone had written him and grabbed his seat next to Briana.

"If you skip French, you're going to fail it," Briana whispered.

Flunking out of High School was not the do-over Rot had in mind. Still, it wasn't like he'd tried to piss Coach Phillips off... and there certainly had been compensating rewards. "I'm going to try not to let that happen."

"Yeah, I heard you've got Wendy tutoring you. That little slut."

Rot stared at Briana. He'd always thought of her as a nice Catholic girl... the good-girl compared to her twin's more rough-and-tumble approach. As he watched, she blushed bright red. "I'm sorry I said that. It isn't nice."

"What isn't nice is that we've got social mores that say a guy who's lucky enough to have sex sometimes is a stud but a girl who has sex once in a while, even if it's with someone she cares about, is a slut. It's two thousand and... I mean it's 1971. As long as two people are happy with what they're doing, they're not hurting anyone else, and they're not screwing up their lives by making babies they can't support or catching diseases they can't deal with, why should there be different standards for guys and girls?

From Briana's expression, he might as well have been speaking in Greek. "Think about it," Rot continued. "Yeah, before the pill, when being sexual meant that a girl could get stuck with a baby she couldn't support, some of that made sense but now? We need to move forward."

"Easy for you to say when you're screwing every girl in the school." Briana actually sounded mad. Could she be jealous? "I can't believe you were flirting with me yesterday and then you attacked my sister after school."

"Attacked? Is that what she said?"

"I know about guys."

"I think you need to learn more about guys. At least this one. Are we still on for my chocolate milk today? We did have a bet."

"I... I guess."

"Great. It's a date."
