Chapter 4

What next?
He goes to health club
Rick didn't even bother looking through the cardboard box that represented his life. He knew what was inside--a coffee mug, a photo of him with his parents and sister when she'd graduated from college, and a few do-das left over from various marketing campaigns and proposals.
What wasn't inside was a healthy body. Which was ironic, of course. Because Bio-DNA was in the business of providing healthy bodies to anyone rich enough to pay for them. Unfortunately, Rick had never made the multi-million dollar payoff it took to buy the carefully engineered DNA modifications that, with the proper viral delivery mechanism, could allow the tiny fraction of one percent of the US population to control their bodies, sculpt themselves into fitness, grow big natural tits or oversized penises, not to mention see into the infrared, remain perpetually youthful, or just enjoy a perfect memory. Instead, Rick needed to work out. Except he hadn't. He'd been too busy with his projects, too busy with his hopes to score a big pay raise and maybe get a corporate discount on some downsized version of the product.
Well, he was going to need to find a new job but in his current mood, that wasn't happening. And he certainly had time for a workout now that he didn't have to worry about impressing the bosses.
He pulled into the health club lot, grabbed the workout bag he always packed but generally didn't actually get around to and went inside.
As always, the front desk was manned by a beautiful blonde. He presented his card and, rather than the usual smile got a frown. "Last day on this card, sir."
"What?" He was sure he'd paid his renewal.
"Oh, it looks like you got an employee discount from your work at Bio-DNA. Since you left your job there, the discount ends. Would you like to switch to an individual membership?"

Fired
Hacking a new Future
Rick Peters is a marketing manager for a bio-tech company and thinks his future is made with the success of his latest marketing campaign. Instead, he's fired--the company wants to bring in younger, cheaper talent. Thanks to non-compete agreements, Rick's career options aren't good and thanks to his long-time dedication to the company that just shafted him, Rick doesn't have much of a love life to fall back on, either. Rick has to make some choices and some changes to his life. He can pursue , try to make his own millions, or even search for personal fulfilment. One thing is certain, if he doesn't do something, he'll quickly end up homeless and on the street.
