Hannah Lowell

Hannah Lowell walked home after another boring day of school. She had gotten a C on her English IV test with the obligatory "You can do better!" scrawled on the top. She listend to her loud, screaming dark music on her iPod.

She arrived home at her suburban tract house. Her parents both worked, and her older sister was away in college, so she would have the house to herself for the next hour and a half.

On her porch was a cardboard box about the size of a small suitcase. It had her name on it in black marker and nothing else. She unlocked her door, opened it, picked up the box and went inside.

She took the box to her room. She opened it. Inside was a DVD that had nothing written on it, a dress, some undergarments, pink platform shoes, pink hose, a pink garter, and a box of make up, pink hair ribbons and bows, and a box of hot pink hair dye.

She took the dress out. It was the most ridiculous dress she had ever seen. It was bright pink with white lace around the arm holes, collar, and hem. It had big poofy shoulders and a big pink bow on the back. It would come down to mid thigh if she put it on.

She laughed. "This must be a fucking joke," she said. She looked at the shoes and hose then the undergarments. The undergarments were white lacy, old fashioned petty coats. She chunked them on her bed. The make up kit contained only bright pink eyeshadow, hot pink lipstick, and pink blush. She shook her head and chunked it in the trash.

She took the DVD and put it in her DVD player. She watched the bizarre video, which she kind of liked.

"Must be a joke," she said laughing. She glanced at herself in the mirror. She smiled as she saw her jet black hair, heavy black eye makeup, blood red lipstick, black t-shirt, black lace gloves, and black full length skirt. Then the house phone rang.

She went to her parents' bedroom where the closest house phone rang. "Hello?"

"Did you get the package?" said a female voice she did not recognize.

"Yes, very funny. It's a riot. Who is this?"

"Did you watch the video?"

"Yeah, at least that wasn't some stupid girly crap. Now who is this? Jana, is this you?"

"Shut up and listen!" said the voice.
