Hang out with her brother

"Lizzie, just go and hang out with Michael, ok?" her mom said, not even looking at her because she was too busy unpacking. 'How old does she think I am?' Lizzie thought in her head but didn't retort. There wasn't much else to do, and it was Michael's birthday after all. She decided she should probably keep him company.

She went over to Michael and sparked a conversation. "Mom sent me to be with you," she said. He looked at her, clearly amused by her obvious displeasure. Lizzie wasn't sure what to tell him next. What did boys his age like to do anyway? "Alright, wanna go for walk?" he said cheerfully. Lizzie nodded and followed her brother as he led the way.

The pair reached a shallow creek when Lizzie stopped to take a break. Lizzie thought about her friends, all of whom were probably enjoying a much more exciting vacation than hers. Although, for a moment, as she stared into the swirling water and smooth pebbles, she almost felt at peace.

That moment was shattered when she felt a cold splash of water to her face. The perpetrator, obviously, was her brother, who was now standing ankle deep in the water. "Screw off, Mike," Lizzie said. She was almost having a good time until he decided to ruin it. He responded with another splash, flinging more water than the last. "You little_" Lizzie returned the favour with a mighty splash. Michael laughed and Lizzie couldn't help but smile too.
