Gunnar's off-campus housing

Gunnar felt mildly relieved to be back in his home, the upper floor of a duplex. His housemates were still out, so he could reorient himself in peace. Everything looked pretty much as he had left it. He went to his bedroom closet, and considered all the new big and tall clothing he'd have to put in there. Still, it was good to be back in the grind of being a graduate teaching assistant at a small liberal arts university.

He went to a window, which looked out across the broad street to the edge of the campus and beyond. It was late summer, and soon a whole new batch of students would arrive. What would they be like? Suddenly he recalled the dream of the voice, the one which claimed a power to skew probability, and he had to laugh. What could that mean? Would Van Gelder University suddenly be besieged by precocious hotties? He shook his head in amusement at the very idea, then resolved to get to work.
