Greg the Coroner Gets the Bone

The cops came at Sheila's call. They quickly confirmed that Horner was dead and didn’t even bother to look in his mouth. They were much more interested in Sheila and Amy, who were acting very oddly indeed. They took them both in for further questioning and left the county coroner's office to determine if there was any evidence of foul play with the body.

In the windowless basement, Greg sighed as he went to work. It was technically a two person job,but Angela had begged him to cover for her while she snuck out of work early to meet up with her new boyfriend. And of course he had said he would. He was such a push over?!

He had a crush on Angela. He seemed to crush on every woman he had any kind of interaction with. But he was overweight and painfully shy and had never let on that he was interested. And now she had a boyfriend. He sighed and went to work on the old man's body.

The cops had said he'd died in the company of two much younger women. Even this old geezer was getting female attention! Why couldn't Greg get anything? He was a nice guy!

Greg found the bone in the old man's mouth almost immediately. No one at the scene had checked for evidence of ****? Was he the only person in the city that didn't half-ass his job?

But the cone was strange. Not chicken, which is what he usually retrieved from corpses' throats. And not human. Too thick. Wierd. He should photograph and catalogue it.

He didn't. No. He was going to keep this. This was his. If this dirty old man could get laid with this lucky charm, why couldn't he?

Greg half-assed the autopsy. Horner had heart disease and chronic alcoholism and had been engaging in vigorous sexual activity that he wasn't healthy enough to engage in. Note to see here. He put the body in cold storage to wait for the tox report, cleaned up and headed towards his favorite bar.

He hadn't sent the bone down since retrieving it from the dead man's craw.
