Goodbye's Handler Report (Ending #2)

Objective Status: Ciao was deployed as handler for the Goodbye Girls to London, on the trail of Vaarvel and Au Revoir. The two stole a CEDIT Gambit; with their intentions unknown, we assumed them to be our enemies and viewed Ciao's intervention as our only means of stopping their rogue behavior. We learned that Au Revoir had been controlled by Vaarvel to act as a diversion while she went after Madison Pettigrew. Ciao cornered Vaarvel in Madison's office and learned of her many crimes, to be detailed in a separate report, all affirming her identity as the true Adder Adjutant. He managed to overcome genetic coding and shot Vaarvel. Unfortunately, she could not be brought in.

Given the circumstances, Ciao acted exactly as he should have. To ask anything more of an agent would be impossible. By killing Vaarvel, he not only protected himself, but he reclaimed Au Revoir for the Goodbye Girls and ended an active threat. We later recovered Madison from Vaarvel's hiding place in London. Casualties during Operation Dark Humor were kept minimal; the only one to perish was the mastermind herself.

Ciao has explained Vaarvel's motivations to me, but I still struggle to understand them. We are also reviewing new tasks based on the information Vaarvel revealed to him. Chief among Ciao's concerns is the establishment of a new watchdog faction to keep tabs on CEDIT's activities. The remaining Goodbye Girls-- self included-- are all in favor of this course of action. In the short term, we need to learn how much Madison knew of these control conspiracies.

My own feelings towards Vaarvel are conflicted. She and Despedida formed the group and brought me in. Together, we did a lot of good for people around the world. I want that to remain her public legacy, even if the truth is more complicated. Despite what she thought, CEDIT is still the group best equipped to handle the now-realized threats that Vaarvel fought against.
