Goodbye's Handler Report (Ending #11)

Objective Status: As handler for the Goodbye Girls, Ciao was held in Washington as the only agent with the potential to stop a suspected rogue agent, Tschau. The details are complicated, but all evidence points towards the fact that Despedida was the one behind the betrayal.

More accurately, it seems Despedida was in the habit of modifying anyone that she found to be useful with technology comparable to Doctor Ivan Bortnik's, making them into either conduits for her mental messages or, in some cases, remote control puppets, activated through devices either implanted in their brain cases, CEDIT issued tech, or else, through especially devious tricks like Tschau's cellular phone.

It didn't end at CEDIT, either. Despedida was controlling high value individuals across the globe using these sorts of devices. Anyone affected-- including many of our agents-- entered a coma-like state once their technology failed along with Despedida's. I have no doubt Despedida would have recovered from the EMP attack it seems she suffered, through some sort of failsafe, had her entire skull not been crushed by Promethia, of all people.

So, if there's a silver lining in all of this, it's that not just the Deliverers, but also, a far greater threat appear to have died out all at once.

For my part, I am surprised to find I was not among those affected. Perhaps she didn't see me as worth modifying? At any rate, the tech devisions are all working around the clock to restore cognitive function to those who shorted out when their link to Despedida was severed. The good news is a good portion of them fell dormant inside CEDIT grounds, so the casualties were lower than you might expect.

Ciao had been modified himself and appeared to have been Despedida's direct captive. Hopefully, once we revive him, we'll understand more about the traitor's motives.

Looking Forward / Next Steps:

The Goodbye Girls will be re-evaluated for fitness to continue pending the recovery of Ciao and Tschau. Should he recover, Ciao will retain his handler position, although the team may be reintegrated into the main CEDIT forces.
