Goodbye's Handler Report (Ending #1)

Objective Status: Ciao was deployed as handler for the Goodbye Girls to London, on the trail of Vaarvel and Au Revoir. The two stole a CEDIT Gambit; with their intentions unknown, we assumed them to be our enemies and viewed Ciao's intervention as our only means of stopping their rogue behavior. We misjudged the situation; we later heard from the returning Vaarvel and Au Revoir that they'd simply been acting on their own judgement, in pursuit of a high-level Adder operative implanted in CEDIT London. Unfortunately, they were too late. Madison Pettigrew vanished somewhere during Operation Dark Humor and Ciao was found in critical condition in her office. He did not survive attempts to resuscitate.

Vaarvel has posited that Madison herself was a double agent for Adder. According to Vaarvel, Adder's activities had come to a head following Operation Full House. It is with sadness that I'm forced to admit that I agree with her assessment: Madison must have fled after seeing our approach, but not before disposing of Ciao. His investigations had probably taken him too close to the truth.

I take responsibility for our failure to properly respond during Operation Dark Humor. Our mistrust of Vaarvel endangered the life of Nathaniel Speck and Adder used the confusion against us. When Ciao was found in critical condition, the Goodbye Girls were handed both a distraction and the unneeded task of caring for their wounded ally. If Ciao wasn't there, I'm convinced they would have sniffed her out.

It is clear to me now that if I'd given the Goodbye Girls proper clearance to operate, we wouldn't have risked another Ciao on this pointless endeavor. As such, I'm stepping down from my position and from here forward. Unless the international committee has an alternate suggestion, Vaarvel will maintain both leadership of the Goodbye Girls and administrative duties. I'm sure she will be up to the task.

My resignation will occur after I submit my final report for Operation Closed Beta.

For the good of all of us, I hope that Adder's double agent will be brought to justice and forced to atone for everything they've done. If anyone can stop them, I'm sure it's Vaarvel.
