"I'm sorry, I nearly forgot about you all." He said, catching his breath. Once he was situated, he began to plod through his explanation. "That man who grabbed both your bags assaulted one our officers with one of them."
"My goodness, is the officer alright?" Carol said, hand covering her mouth.
"Well, it was a head injury, but he'll survive. We also recovered one of the bags, it seems like he tossed it right after getting it." The Chief said, as a lower officer came in with the aforementioned bag. Devin smiled in shock, and made quick work of examining the bag. "Everything in there?" Devin nodded in response.
"Miss...?" The Chief said, motioning to Carol.
"Carol's fine." Carol said, as he nodded back. Her voice became just a bit lighter and nicer.
"Well, your daughters bag is currently being seized for evidence. I can't tell you how long that might take..." He said, sipping his coffee. His face betrayed the fact that he was waiting to be chewed out by a pissed parent.
"Well, she has important things in there. Why is it evidence in the first place?" Carol said, her formerly friendly tone gone.
"It hit an officer in the head. I couldn't imagine a simpler form of evidence of ****." He replied, finishing his coffee.
"Okay, well, have the bag then. We want the contents. I can call my atto-..." Carol said, as the chief sighed. Putting up his hands in defeat, he got comfortable again in the chair.
"Fine, fine. Don't get all lawyery on me. I'll see what I can do." He said, as Carol smugly nodded back. The look up 'mother proven right' on her evident.
Alexa, meanwhile, was shocked at the whole turn of events. Her bag being used as an **** weapon. Then 'becoming' Carol's daughter. Now, Carol gave away her bag, so she could have the contents. Finally, Carol had won against a police chief, and seemed openly happy. The shy Alexa found it impossible to do, dominating a conversation as much as Carol had.
