Go where it comes from

They loved the smell. "It's coming from down there" Rikki said, pointing on somewhere below the surface. And indeed, there was something like an entry in the water. The three breathed in deeply and then dived down and entered the cave that had been hidden there. It was a wonderful view, a cave with a small beach, while the water was glowing turquoise and a hole from far over them was lightening the place. They were probably in the middle of the inactive volcano.
