Go to the library

You've got to find another job and the library seems a reasonable place to start. For one thing, they generally have free WiFi and they don't kick you out for just sitting there all day. For another, sometimes there are cute girls there. And, who knows, maybe there are even some library resources you can't just pull up on the internet.

Your local branch library is a moderate-sized structure built as part of the public works project during the depression. It's held up pretty well with its Spanish-style architecture, it's hardwood floors and that universal library smell of old books, sweating homeless people, and cleaning products.

You nod at the library clerk when you enter. She's probably eighteen and definitely at least eighteen pounds heavier than ideal... not that you're Mr. perfect-body. You promise yourself you'll try to talk to her later. She's definitely not as hot as Amber but right now you need the practice in talking to girls.

Finding a seat isn't as easy as you thought it would be. There are a bunch of moms with kids there for story time and between them and the homeless crew, chairs are at a premium. Finally, though, you locate one in a corner and, best of all, it's near an electric outlet. You dump your knapsack on the chair, plug in your laptop, and log into the library WiFi.

Being in the library reminds you to check out city jobs.

You find one you're vastly overqualified for and decide to put in an application anyway. When it comes to putting in your address, though, you're stumped. You know where Jeremy lives but you don't know his apartment number and you're pretty sure Amber won't be forwarding your mail to you. So, that job application goes into the 'later' pile and you're left with the rest of the day to waste before Jeremy gets home to let you in.

As often happens on the Internet, one link leads to another and all of a sudden you're reading about John Dee and his weird theories of the language of the Angels also known as Enochian. According to the article, Dee was court mathematician to Queen Elizabeth and was consumed with the idea that Angels spoke the universe into existence and that this same language still has the power to create reality. It's a pretty cool idea but Dee's actual theory of the language is cryptic. Maybe you could write some kind of a program to hash all of the codes Dee created.

A few hours later, you decide it's time to grab lunch and do something else with your day.
