Go for a drive and spin the new Billy Royce disk

As they walked away from Anaconda, Bernie and Gary kept an eye on Lil to see how she was feeling.

Bernie asked Lil, "In the mood for more shopping, Lil? Or should we get a snack first?"

"Yeah, where do you want to go next, sis?" Gary asked.

Lil had already popped her Billy Royce open and was drooling over the fat booklet of pictures and liner notes. "Did you guys want to get anything special for tonight?" she asked. "I mean, like, for your date? You could just drop me at the Cyber Cafe. They'd let me play a disk with earphones," she said, waving her new acquisition.

Gary looked at his watch. "There's no hurry," he said. "Wait. Hey Lil?"

"Huh?" his sister said.

"We all like Billy Royce," Gary said. "Let's go for a drive and give the new disk a spin in Stuart's Surf Van. I mean, as long as we've got seven speakers and a couple hundred watts on loan, let's put 'em to use." He looked over at Bernie.

"Hey, I'm good," Bernie said. She pulled her dark curly hair up off her neck. "Lil, did you have some more shopping in mind?"

Lil giggled. "Who could want more than Billy Royce?" She cradled the disk to her chest and hugged it. "Yeah, let's go cruise around."

"Let's get something to drink first," Bernie said. "I'm hot."

"Drive-through!" Lil crowed. "Let's go!"

"OK sis," Gary said. "Let's go for a drive with Billy." He smiled. "Maybe we can stop at Lee's Drive-In for lunch."

They carried their loot from Anaconda back to Stuart's Super Surf Van with its glossy airbrush paintings and chrome-trimmed mudflaps. They settled themselves three across in the big front seat, Bernie in the middle in the "girlfriend seat." Gary pulled out of the mall parking lot and onto the road. The pavement shimmered with the heat of the summer day as they rolled toward the nearest drive-through for some cold drinks.

Lil reached over and turned on Stuart's amped-up sound system. Voices on the radio babbled for a bit until she popped the new Billy Royce disk in. The opening bars of the song echoed from all around them.

"It sounds so cool on Stuart's big stereo!" Lil said. "And this song is so perfect."
