You sit and wait a moment thinking over your options. You could use Lucy's friend or better yet....
"What if I want you as my partner?" Kevin look dumb founded. After a moment he starts laughing pretty heavily.
"You had me going there for a moment" Kevin says than he looks at you.
You where pretty crestfallen. Sure you prefered woman but Kevin was you friend. Hes hot, smart, and generally a good guy. You tried covering up your hurt but he catches it.
