Chapter 4
by Suckersoprano
What should he do?
Go buy a mask.
Dago figured he could blend in with his surroundings and try to have a good time, so he walked into the mask shop to see if he could find something. The shop had several hundreds of masks, shaped like animals, people, elements, anything and everything. Dago wasn’t even sure what a lot of the masks were supposed to represent; a few of them looked too arty for him to fathom. He continued walked around the shop, trying to find something that wasn’t too garish or strange-looking. He accidentally bumped shoulders with someone and knocked their wooden mask right out of their hand. Dago stooped to pick it up for them.
“Hey, sorry about that,” he said, not anticipating someone would understand him.
The man in front of him wore a silver fox mask with two slits for eyeholes. Dago couldn’t see his face because of it, but he was kind of tan and muscular. He looked like someone who worked out, or someone who worked outside. The mask Dago had knocked out of his hand was a red fox mask, he noticed. He wondered if the man was getting a matching one for a significant other.
“Eh, no harm done,” the man said with a really casual air, “Uh… hey, can I ask your opinion on something?”
“Sure,” Dago agreed, “What is it?”
“I’m trying to buy a present for a… friend, which is better?” he asked.
The man held up the red fox mask, which was handsomely painted with curling red lines and a stark white base. He then picked up a pretty blue siren mask that had fins around the sides, instead of pointed ears. It was painted with a sea green and light blue and had a much more feminine aesthetic.
Which mask?
