What do you do before your date?
Get ready for the date
John texted me on Friday.
From: John
I’ll pick you up at 6 tomorrow evening. We’ll get a cab to the restaurant, and wing it from there. Wear something smart. Looking forward to seeing you xx
I had butterflies in my stomach all day Friday and Saturday. This was my first proper date ever and I was so nervous.
What do I wear? He said dress smart. Does that mean a blouse and a skirt? A dress? Or does he just mean not a hoody?
I hated not knowing where we were going. It just meant there was more to overthink.
I had to get Megan to pick me out an outfit. She picked out a cute short black dress I had bought ages ago with her, but never had an excuse to wear.
“I told you this would be great for a date!” she said, as I tried it on. “Sure, I thought you would wear it a few years ago, but better late than never. Look, you’ve even grown into it. Funny how things work out.”
She was right. When I first bought it, it covered my tits completely, and ended by my knee. Now a bit of cleavage showed and I’d have to be careful if I wanted to keep my dignity in public. Zach even turned his head when I walked by, resulting in a slap from Megan.
A black car turned up at exactly six PM on Saturday evening. John emerged from the car and knocked on the front door. I had been waiting by it all evening, but I didn’t want to seem too keen so I counted to ten before answering.
“Hi! How are you?” I said as I opened the door.
“Very good thanks, you? You look… amazing by the way.”
“Aw, thanks. I’m doing good too.”
John was dressed in a shirt and tie, and was looking sharp. He lent in and pecked me on the lips which almost sent me head over heels. I had always had a thing for guys who dressed up.
“Save it for later!” Megan called from the kitchen doorway. She was watching us leave, eating her instant noodles while dressed in her pajamas and one of Zach’s jumpers. “Oh, and if you have sex, use protection. I ain’t gunna babysit for you two.” I gave her a glare as we walked out the door.
I hope he has brought protection. I could fuck him right now.
The cab journey was a short 20 minutes to a fancy looking Italian restaurant in town. The queue to get in was huge, but John assured me he had booked as we walked passed them. Sure enough, the waitress took us to a two-person window table overlooking the canal which ran next to the restaurant.
John pulled my chair out for me, and then took a seat opposite. The waitress came back with a complementary bottle of champagne which he poured for us.
“Special occasion?” She asked, placing the bottle down.
“First date.” John replied.
The waitress placed her arm on mine and smiled at me.
“He’s a keeper” she whispered, before leaving to fetch our menus.
“This place is incredible!” I said, taking his hand.
“I’m glad you like it. I wasn’t sure if it was too much for a first date.”
I smiled back.
Maybe it was for some people, but this was fulfilling all my fantasies.
“Not at all. It’s perfect.”
The date continued to go perfectly. John was charming funny and flirty. The conversation never fell dead and I didn’t feel awkward at all. For the first time ever, I really felt like I had met my soul mate. He just seemed too perfect to be real. Sure, you could see he was a little nervous. But so was I, and he tried so hard that it was easy to forget.
I offered to pay for my half but he refused to allow that. I didn’t bother looking at the receipt but it couldn’t be cheap. After we left, we took a walk down the canal. The sun had set a while ago but the street lights kept the path lit. We found a bench away from the market sellers which were set up along the main path and sat for a while, enjoying each other’s company. The wind was starting to pick up and I was regretting not bringing a jacket. Luckily John put his arm around me and kept me close.
“This is the perfect end to a perfect week” I said after a moment of silence.
“We’ve still got one more day” he laughed back.
“But if this was my last day on Earth, I could live with that.”
He squeezed me tighter. I stared into his blue eyes like I had before, and felt an overwhelming connection to him. Part of it was a animalistic desire to rip all our clothes off, but mostly a more civilised want to stay with this guy for the rest of my life. No-one else could make me feel this way. Only he could make me this happy.
We eventually decided to head back. We crossed a bridge and caught a taxi on the main road back to my house. We both walked down the driveway to my front door. I fumbled the keys in the lock whilst John stood behind me. I finally got the lock open and turned back to him.
Is this a kiss and goodbye? It was a great night, and I don’t want to ruin it. Does he even want to come in?
Do you invite John in?
